Questions

What is Bearletter?
A blog for individual writers who want to be read: write, publish, and your post is on a fast blog at yourname.bearletter.com or your own domain. It also reaches feed readers, search engines, the fediverse and Bluesky on its own. No ads, no tracking.
Is Bearletter free?
Yes. Writing, publishing and keeping a blog are free, with no time limit. Pro is US$5 a month or US$50 a year for your own domain, search indexing, a podcast, subscribers, media uploads, full statistics, the fediverse and Bluesky.
Can people follow my blog from Mastodon, Threads or Bluesky?
Yes, on Pro. Your blog is a fediverse account, @yourname@social.bearletter.com or on your own domain, that people follow from Mastodon, Threads where fediverse sharing is on, and other ActivityPub apps. On Bluesky, connect your own account and each new post goes there with a link card, or turn on the Bridgy Fed bridge. Bearletter sends your posts out; replies stay where they were written.
Can I send a newsletter?
Your subscriber list lives on Bearletter, and you send to it with Substack: export the list for Substack in one click, import a Substack export to keep unsubscribes in step, and copy a published post for Substack with a link back to your blog.
Can I post to X?
Every published post has a Share on X button that opens X with the title and link filled in. Bearletter does not post to X for you.
Can I take my writing with me?
Always. Download everything in one file: your posts and pages as Markdown, the whole site as static HTML to host anywhere, and a list of your media. Subscribers export as a CSV.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes. Cancel from Billing in your settings; Pro stays until the end of the period you paid for, and nothing is charged after.
What happens to my blog if Pro ends?
It stays online. Search engines stop indexing it, and your own domain points back to yourname.bearletter.com for 30 days. Statistics go back to the last 30 days. Your writing, subscribers and custom CSS are kept. Uploaded media stays for 30 days (90 for files your posts use), with reminders and a one-click backup before anything is removed.
Does Pro rank higher on the front page?
No. Every blog can reach the front page: Free blogs after their first 7 days, Pro blogs at once. Readers' likes and time decide where posts appear, and nobody can pay for a better place.
How do I pay?
By card through Stripe. Bearletter never sees your card number. Prices are in US dollars.
